Restrictions In Valley To Prevent Muharram Procession



Fearing violence, authorities in the valley have not allowed the main Muharram -- Islamic mourning -- procession ever since the separatist armed struggle started here in the 1990s.

Kashmir has been reeling under an unprecedented cycle of violence that started on July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani was killed in a gunfight.

Durga Maa Back To Holy Abode



In Bhubaneswar, three makeshift ponds have been created near the banks of Kuakhai, Daya and Bhargavi rivers for idol immersion.

The police have asked the puja committees to keep the sound level of the DJs below 58 decibel to minimize noise pollution.

Ravan Burns Without Fire This Year



Following the restrictions of fireworks imposed by the Supreme Court and Centre, the City Police had not given permission to several puja pandals for firework display during ‘Ravan Podi’.

The term ‘Vijayadashami’ is derived from Sanskrit that means victory on the ‘Dashami’: the tenth day of the Hindu almanac.

Durga Puja: Crowd Can Throng More Than 300 Pandals







More than 300 major puja pandals and innumerable smaller ones in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar have come alive with stunning decorations and sparkling lights. People are moving from pandal to pandal to seek and admire the puja decorations created on different themes.

To ensure an incident-free Dussehra, the commissionerate police have tightened security in the twin cities.

Goddess In Gold And Silver This Durga Puja



There are about 160 Puja Committees in Cuttack, with about 23 Committees having Silver tableaux in Cuttack. Local Puja Committees of each locality are responsible for organizing the celebrations in their locality. There is a healthy competition between Committees to make the pandals more attractive.

The silver filigree craftsmanship is very intricate and It takes about 20 skilled artisans working 8 hours a day for 2 years to make a silver filigree pandal.
